Project Summary
This Grandhome media unit was designed to become a true feature within the living room, bringing together storage, display, lighting and warmth in one made to measure installation.
The finished design combines wood effect slat wall panelling, dark base cabinetry, illuminated display shelving, a glass fronted cabinet and an integrated electric fireplace. It feels contemporary and practical, but still warm enough for everyday family living.

The Brief
The client wanted a media unit that would feel like a central design feature, rather than a simple TV wall. The space needed to include room for the television, an electric fireplace, display areas and useful storage, while still feeling clean and cohesive within the wider interior.
There was also a clear opportunity to add texture and depth through the finishes, so the unit could bring more character into the room without overwhelming it.
The Challenge
A media unit with several different functions can quickly start to feel busy. In this case, the design needed to bring together the TV, fireplace, display shelving, glass cabinet and storage in a way that felt balanced.
The materials also had to work carefully together. The wood effect slat wall needed to create warmth and texture, while the dark cabinetry and black shelf details had to give the design contrast without making the room feel heavy.

The Komandor Solution
Komandor Scotland created a made to measure media unit designed around the full living room wall.
The wood effect slat wall panelling frames the TV area and gives the feature a strong architectural presence. Below, the dark base cabinetry provides discreet storage, with BLUM push to open hinged doors helping to keep the overall look clean and handle free.
An electric fireplace was integrated into the lower section, adding warmth and atmosphere while maintaining the streamlined design. To the left, the glass display cabinet and open shelving create space for decorative pieces, with vertical LED lighting used to highlight the display area and soften the overall mood of the room.

The result is a media unit that feels both practical and expressive, with each feature serving a clear purpose.
Design Result
The completed media unit gives the living room a polished focal point with a strong sense of depth and character. The slat wall brings warmth, the dark cabinetry adds contrast, and the illuminated display sections give the room a more refined, atmospheric feel.
It is a good example of how bespoke fitted furniture can do more than organise a space. With the right design, it can shape the entire look and feel of a room.
